Our Story

Since its inception in 1988, RMECDC has served as an economic engine in the eastern region of North Carolina.  Economic development needs to be addressed by RMECDC, both past, and present, include: affordable housing development, neighborhood revitalization, and blight removal, commercial development, human resource development programs, homebuyer education, foreclosure mitigation counseling, small business technical assistance, job creation, technology and STEM education and community planning and development.

Douglas Block

Historic Preservation Renovation of the historic African- American business district. RMECDC partnered with the City of Rocky Mount to complete a $7m renovation project.

Harambee Square

Renovated in 1994, Harambee Square is RMECDC’s first project. It is a $3 million downtown historic preservation and low-income housing tax credit development investment.

Genesis Estates

New neighborhood adjacent to Thorne Ridge Apartments (Under Construction)
 36 Houses completed and sold

RMECDC Industrial Incubator

The Edgecombe County Business/Industrial Incubator (ECBII) features 40,000 square feet of space for use as a center for small business development, specialized  job training and commercial leasing.

Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award.
